Benedict XVI has appointed Bishop Anthony Mancini -- the auxiliary bishop of Montreal --
as the new archbishop of the Archdiocese of Halifax and Apostolic Administrator of the
Diocese of Yarmouth. Born in Italy, Mancini, 61, succeeds Archbishop Terrence Prendergast,
who became the Archbishop of Ottawa earlier this year.
The pope also named Bishop Martin Currie as
the Archbishop of St. John's Newfoundland and Labrador. Currie will also remain Bishop of
the neighbouring Diocese of Grand Falls.
