Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, ON, rode to victory in the $60,000 'Kubota' Big
Ben Memorial Grand Prix at the 'Kubota' Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament at the
National Equestrian Park in Ottawa last July but the international event has been
cancelled this year. Organizers of the event -- billed as "one of the richest
outdoor sporting events in the country" -- blamed falling sponsorships and the City
of Ottawa's decision to charge an additional $21,000 for services, bringing the total cost
to $51,000. |
