Scotia Tory MP Bill Casey was kicked out of the Conservative caucus after breaking
ranks with his party June 5 and voting against a bill to implement the federal budget.
Casey said he couldn't support the budget because it won't allow his province to
fully benefit from offshore oil and gas revenues without losing equalization payments from
the federal government. Casey will sit as an Independent MP. |

Watson's Mills, one of the only functioning
gristmills in North America, is to receive a 2007 National Achievement Award for the work
that went into restoring and promoting it. The Heritage Canada Foundation (HCF) and
the Canadian Chapter of the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills (SPOOM) announced
the award May 31. The 19th century limestone building on the Rideau River is the only
working industrial heritage site in the City of Ottawa. More than $500,000 in grants and
donations was raised over four years for repairs and maintenance on the mill . |

HORSES OF A DIFFERENT COLOUR
Horses at the National Equestrian Park in
Ottawa earned themselves some grazing time June 3 after taking part in a day of equestrian
competitions at the sprawling facility in the city's west end.

Toronto's CN Tower is only weeks away from losing
its reputation as the world's tallest freestanding structure. By September, the Burj
Dubai in the United Arab Emirates will become the tallest building in the world and
also the tallest freestanding land-based structure. Figures released by a contractor say
it will reach a height of about 808 meters (2,651 feet) compared to the CN Tower's height
of 553 meters (1,815 feet). |
