coffin-oct21 (Small).jpg (30701 bytes) In an emotional address at the closing of the annual diocesan synod Oct. 21, Anglican Bishop Peter Coffin announces that he will retire as bishop of the Diocese of Ottawa at the end of July 2007. Coffin, who has been the diocesan bishop for over seven years, surprised many of the 300 delegates at the meeting, saying, "I believe it's time for me to move on." The   60-year-old bishop said he wants to spend more time as Bishop Ordinary for the Canadian Forces. "This is something I really want to do," he said. Coffin added that he has also been asked to teach at Saint Paul University in Ottawa.  The Catholic university has had an Anglican studies program for 25 years.
turner (Small).jpg (37663 bytes) MP Garth Turner, expelled from the Conservative caucus Oct. 19  following allegations that he broke caucus confidentiality by  comments he posted on his website, is considering joining the Green Party but has not ruled out others options including joining the Liberal Party.
