Rev. David Pfrimmer has been appointed Principal-Dean of Waterloo Lutheran Seminary (WLS). The WLS is one of the two seminaries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada. Rev. Pfrimmer will continue to represent the ELCIC on the Canadian Council of Churches' Commission for Justice and Peace and will continue as a member pf the Lutheran World Federation Council.


oratory3-th.jpg (30383 bytes) Nearly 50,000 pilgrims are expected to visit St. Joseph's Oratory in Montreal March 10-19 for the novena to St. Joseph and the Feast of St. Joseph.  Monsignor Luigi Ventura, the papal nuncio; Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte, Archbishop of Montreal; and Bishop Pierre Morissette, of Baie-Comeau, are to officiate at the three solemn masses.
cote-th.jpg (15839 bytes) Father Richard Cote, OMI, Director of the Office for Ecclesial Relations and Doctrine at the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) died in Ottawa March 9 at the age of 70.In demand as a resource person and speaker throughout Canada and Europe, Cote had served as provincial counsellor for the Oblates of Mary Immaculate for the Lesotho province (1967-69) and the Northern USA province (1980-86), as well as on the executive board of the USA Oblate formation conference, the CCCB said in a news release. Funeral arrangements had not been finalized. The cause of death was not stated.

Catholic Bishop Douglas Crosby (OMI) of the Newfoundland Diocese of St. George's, says his diocese does not have the $50 million in compensation that the 36 victims of Father Kevin Bennett are seeking and is filing for bankruptcy protection, the CBC reported March 9. "It gives us time to work with the victims to put out all of our resources and make sure that everybody knows everything, [that] nothing is hidden, and that we can come up with a compensation package that is accepted by them and satisfactory to the court," said Crosby. Bennett was convicted of the assault charges against the 36 victims  in 1990...

Ontario New Democrat MP Charlie Angus has been warned by his parish priest that he won't be able to receive communion if he votes for same-sex marriage. Father James Lemire, pastor of the church Angus attends in the Timmins, Ont.,  diocese told  the Hill Times that he hoped the MP would "experience a conversion and realize the gravity of his errors" and realize that supporting the bill was "incompatible" with the Catholic faith. Angus says he hasn’t been to Mass since the incident.
