Catholic Bishop Douglas Crosby
(OMI) of the Newfoundland Diocese of St. George's, says his diocese does not have the $50
million in compensation that the 36 victims of Father Kevin Bennett are seeking and is
filing for bankruptcy protection, the CBC reported March 9. "It gives us time to work
with the victims to put out all of our resources and make sure that everybody knows
everything, [that] nothing is hidden, and that we can come up with a compensation package
that is accepted by them and satisfactory to the court," said Crosby. Bennett was
convicted of the assault charges against the 36 victims in 1990... |

Ontario New Democrat MP
Charlie Angus has been warned by his parish priest that he won't be able to receive
communion if he votes for same-sex marriage. Father James Lemire, pastor of the church
Angus attends in the Timmins, Ont., diocese told the Hill Times that he hoped
the MP would "experience a conversion and realize the gravity of his errors" and
realize that supporting the bill was "incompatible" with the Catholic faith.
Angus says he hasnt been to Mass since the incident. |
