leger-th.jpg (40351 bytes) Silver Cross Mother Claire Leger lays a wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa Aug. 14 at a ceremony in honour of the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Far East and the end of the Second World War. Her son,  Sgt. Marc Leger, was one of four Canadian soldiers killed in a "friendly fire" tragedy three years ago.

Clarkson's term as the queen's representative in Canada ends in September.
steacy-th.jpg (12394 bytes) Funeral services were held at St. Patrick's Basilica in Ottawa Aug. 11 for Newton Steacy, a former director of the Catholic Civil Rights League. He died suddenly at his home at the age of 78. Steacy was Chief of Staff for the Department of Mulitculturalism in Ottawa.
